It’s already the 7th day of December (say what?!) and the countdown to Christmas is on! This year we’re doing Christmas a little differently by flying to Houston for the holidays instead of driving, and I don’t necessarily want to pack Walter’s gifts in suitcases on the way back; instead I’ve decided to have our elf, I mean elves, bring some of the presents that we would’ve given him a little bit early. Some of the “holiday happies” are pajamas, some are books, and many are crafts and family experiences. Today I’m sharing a few of the surprises that our elves Mitsy and Mayhem bring to the Weiss Wesidence during the holiday season! (pssst… each item is clickable in the collage below!)
Pajamas: These Petite Plume pajamas are absolutely soft, and absolutely adorable! My favorite children’s boutique, Little Birdies Boutique in Washington DC, sells them and they have the best selection for boys and girls. The gingham just melts my heart!
Shoes: These Salt Water Sandals are the perfect shoes for the Florida climate here. 85 degrees in December? Bring on the sandals! And let’s be honest here, I’m trying to avoid gifting shoes for Christmas, so I just let the elves do it for me 🙂
Chef’s coat, whisks, and cookie cutters: Now that Walter is older, he is fascinated with cooking and baking and constantly wants to be in the kitchen. This year, we’ll be making homemade cookies together for the first time, and I intend for it to become a holiday tradition! The cookie cutter is only 99 cents at Target (!!), the silicone whisks are under $12, and the adorable children’s chef’s coat is under $25! The chef’s coat is Walter’s favorite, and if I’m not careful, he’ll try to sneak out of the house wearing it. Trust me, it’s happened before!
DIY holiday wreath and DIY elephant garland: Paper Source always has the cutest paper DIY kits, and this wreath was just screaming to be made! The elves will be “delivering” the wreath this weekend, and the elephant garland will be “here” on Friday. I know Walter and I won’t make them look anything like the photos, but it’s a craft we can do together and that’s the most important part.
Christmas books: these are a breeze for the elves to bring because it’s something new to read at bedtime, and it gets Walter even more excited about Christmas. It’s Christmas, David! is a favorite in our house! Who loves Christmas books?! **raises hand**
Christmas outfit: Oh Beaufort Bonnet, you’ve done it again! Little Birdies Boutique has the most adorable selection of TBBC clothes, and the elves will be bringing this closer to Christmas. I know it’s clothes, but it’s something exciting for Walter to open… and that’s priceless to watch!
While I love the pajamas, shoes, and other goodies that Mitsy and Mayhem bring, my favorite “holiday happy” that they bring are the experiences: baking cookies with the new chef’s coat, making elephant garland with Walter’s creativity, and reading Christmas books at bedtime. These memories made can’t be purchased, and yet they are worth so much. These crafts with Walter keep my mind from getting distracted with stressful holiday shopping, and these memories will ones I cherish forever. It doesn’t have to be a craft- it can be a simple playdate in the park with your little one, or an afternoon watching the SunRail trains go past at the train station (Walter’s favorite). I use my elf to add purpose to our holiday season, and to occasionally remind us of what’s important: family.
So, what’s coming today? There’s a little voucher for an ice cream date with Mommy this afternoon 🙂 Have a wonderful Wednesday!
