Happy Friday friends! Whew, this week has felt like a year- anyone else feel this way? This was our first week of at-home schooling for Walter, and without having normal school interactions with his buddies, our little guy is struggling. He’s social, he loves his friends fiercely so this social distancing from COVID-19 has taken a toll on our kindergartener. I know I’m not the best teacher out there (reason #145 why I am NOT one) so it’s pretty apparent in the Weiss house that things are kind of tense. It’s okay, we’re just navigating this new season as best we can (with copious amounts of wine)!
On Wednesday, one of Walter’s best buddies at school “egged” our house, and before you cringe too much, eggs filled with candy were hidden all over our front yard for our kids- it was AWESOME! Walter and Eloise were thrilled, and Walter was so happy to have some form of socialization with his friend, even if it was in passing. This “egging” made him think of his other friends and how he could pass along the Easter cheer, so I went to Target solo to grab some baskets, small activities, and Easter eggs to do some “egging” of our own!
We loved the egg hunt in our front yard so much, and the kids were so happy to have a “new” activity to do that I wanted to keep that same excitement for our other little friends! At Target I found a basket for $1 (perfect to hold sidewalk chalk later!), PEZ dispensers, bubbles, a “Gold Dig it!” to keep little hands entertained for awhile (they aren’t a quick thing to do), nail polish for a sister sibling, and a few things just for mom- a tiny bottle of rosé for $3.99 and an eye mask because we could all use them right now.
And for Eloise’s little bestie (she’s 2), I grabbed the unicorn chalk (perfect for little hands) and the kinetic sand has its own container so it’s an easy-ish cleanup 🙂 Rosé is a must for each basket for the moms, and at $3.99 you can’t beat it!
While at Target, I found a fun-pack of tiny individual PlayDohs ($4.99) that fit perfectly in the larger 6-egg packs ($1) — these are PERFECT for those warm southern spots (like Orlando) where chocolate in plastic eggs would melt easily in the sun. Walter and Eloise helped to fill the eggs, and they had the best time! This was a perfect tactile activity for Eloise too.
The kids LOVED doing this for their friends, and it was a great way to think of others while still maintaining social distancing. Check out the video below to watch some of the egg hunt fun, filling eggs, and some of Walter’s best moves 🙂
If you’re interested in doing this, a lot of these items can be picked up with Curbside Delivery from Target (most are linked!) and most items can be disinfected by parents with Lysol before being picked up (eggs, basket goodies, etc.).
Thanks for following along, and wishing you a happy, safe, and healthy weekend!
