Happy Valentine’s Day!
Valentine’s Day looks a little different this year than last (photo below) with TWO walking bebes, and taking photos of them is basically the equivalent of herding cats. “You, please sta– PLEASE stand here and hold your sister’s hand.” “Don’t moooove… YOU MOVED.” “Please take that finger out of your nose and OHMYGOSH DO NOT WIPE IT ON YOUR– well, it’s on your shirt now. Ooookay.” But if I’m being honest here, I’ll take snot noses wiped on shirt sleeves and temper tantrums all day because these two are mine <3
Even though the kiddos are growing and I’m (slowly getting) more open to having a babysitter for Eloise, Peter and I keep Valentine’s Day the same: we give each other cards and that’s it. No flowers, no chocolate, just a card. Call me crazy, but I cringe at the idea of spending $25+ on a dozen roses that will be $10 next week, and honestly I like the idea of being surprised with flowers than expecting them on a certain day. We wrote our cards this morning, gave the kids their cards and small gifts (Walter got a larger dinosaur, Eloise got a new purse) and went about our day. It’s simple, it’s easy, it’s us. Tonight we got a Papa John’s heart-shaped pizza, and the kids loved it… and so did we.
This year’s Valentine’s Day called for two sets of Valentine goodies, and because Eloise is now in the toddler class in her medical daycare, she was asked to bring something for her friends. We (read: me) purchased bubble wands from the Target Dollar Spot and attached a gift tag that said, “Life is the bubbles with you as my friend!” I printed off a handful of these sayings and glued them to the back of thick cardstock from Michael’s, cut them out and used pink gingham ribbon to tie the note to the bubble wand. I would have gotten a photo of the final product, but this is a total case of second kid syndrome and I forgot. whoops.
Walter’s Valentine’s were miniature dinosaurs in treat bags with a tag that said, “You are a DINO-MITE friend!”, and Amazon came to the rescue with these little dinos. These valentines were at Walter’s request and while they look cute, these dinosaur figures are currently becoming carpet land-mines in sixteen other households in the Orlando-area, and I can’t help but snicker juuuust a little bit. I mean, I did exactly what my kid asked for 🙂
This year’s Valentine’s Day morning was spent at Magic Kingdom, and this week I’ve been reminded how glorious it is to go to Disney by myself. Zero kids, by… myself. I’m talking about riding teacups alone, and choosing to eat an entire Minnie Mouse-shaped Rice Krispy not only because you want it but also because there aren’t four hands grabbing at your snack. Let’s spell it out: G-L-O-R-I-O-U-S. I know this can’t happen often, but dang it, I’m going to try to make it a “thing”. Want to see what my morning by myself at Disney looks like? Click the video below to see my Disney day and our Valentine’s Day, Weiss family style. (pssst… it includes a heart-shaped pizza that I nearly dropped, but didn’t. THANK FREAKING GOODNESS).
Wishing you a happy Valentine’s Day!
