If I said these past few months have been a whirlwind, it’d probably be the understatement of the year- August was especially crazy for us. We welcomed Eloise on August 1st, and she’s certainly kept us on our toes in with her breathing spells and her diagnosis of central apnea (after several stays in the hospital). One day I’ll write about her birth and about her stays in the pediatric intensive care unit, but for now I want to share Eloise’s nursery that we worked hard on this summer.
I wrote this on July 31st while sitting in Eloise’s room, the day before I was induced. Every day I’d tell myself I’d finally hit publish on this post, but something would always seem to come up. It finally took Hurricane Irma to come this weekend to finally get me to post this, you know… just in case we get any kind of damage. Here’s to her nursery and hoping that Irma skirts past us on Sunday and Monday!

It’s certainly been awhile since I’ve posted here, and funny enough, the last post I wrote was announcing Eloise’s name! Here we are months later, and her nursery is finally being blogged! And just in time too… she’ll be here tomorrow!
I had every intention of blogging throughout this pregnancy, but life got in the way (funny how that happens, huh?). Things have been pretty smooth these past few months but we did have a few hiccups along the way, like how she tried to escape two weeks ago at 36w0d and how we all thought she’d arrive any day… and instead I’m getting induced tomorrow at 38 weeks pregnant.
No matter how she gets here, we’re so excited to finally meet her and we can’t wait to bring her home!
crib: Bratt Decor // once we found out that we were having a baby girl, I knew I wanted an iron crib. Once I finally decided on the color (at the end of June), Bratt Decor had the crib that we wanted on back-order. I found the crib online at WayFair (on sale!), and had it shipped to us within a week. It was so fast!
bedding: Little Unicorn // a sweet little children’s boutique, Little Birdies Boutique in Washington DC, has my heart and after getting to know the owner, Shanlee, through Instagram I knew that her bedding would come from there. I just adore the soft colors in this muslin fitted sheet!
wreath: Pier 1 Imports // a few weeks ago, I saw this wood chip wreath in Pier 1 and fell in love with it. Finding a boxwood wreath that doesn’t have that dried plant smell was tough, so buying this wreath made of painted wood chips was a complete no-brainer.
glider: Target // we actually have this exact chair in Walter’s room, and I kind of felt silly owning two of these chairs but I love curling up with W in his glider and reading a book before bed. I just couldn’t bring myself to take the coveted glider out of his room for Eloise.
pillow: Nordstrom // when I saw this flamingo pillow (sold out) in the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale preview the other week, I knew it would be the perfect amount of “Florida” for Eloise’s nursery. And sure enough, the colors go great with the room!
ottoman: HomeGoods // I tried my hardest to find an ottoman like the popular Moroccan leather ottomans, but I couldn’t bring myself to spend nearly $100 on a foot rest. This woven ottoman was less than $30 at HomeGoods and does the job just fine!
changing table: A&T’s Antiques (a local “junktique”) // because we live in an apartment, painting the walls wasn’t really going to be an option for us; I wanted a piece of furniture that would act like an anchor color-wise for the room. I found this 12-drawer dresser (it’s 5 feet long!) in one of the local antique/junk shops here in Orlando and haggled them down to a very reasonable price- under $500! When we purchased the dresser it was an antique white, and went to Home Depot to get a peachy-pink color to repaint it. I chose a swatch that looked like a good color, but it ended up being more of a ballerina pink (which has ended up working perfectly). Peter painted it over a weekend, and it’s been the perfect anchor piece for her room.
bedside table: HomeGoods // I give my mom all the credit for finding this table at HomeGoods here in Orlando! It was under $60, and fits perfectly in that little corner spot.
lamp: RH Baby&Child // The small crystal lamp was a must-have as soon as I saw it at the RH Baby&Child Gallery in Houston a few months ago. It’s tiny, but puts off just the right amount of light and will be great for those midnight feeds and snuggle sessions.
topiary: HomeGoods // Yep, another HomeGoods find! This potted fake topiary was under $10 and I love the touch of green it brings to that side of the nursery.
chandelier: Home Depot // When I envisioned her nursery, I knew there had to be a chandelier involved, but I didn’t want to break the bank. This chandelier is the perfect amount of sparkle but isn’t too overboard with crystal bling and it didn’t break the bank in terms of chandeliers (under $170 on sale at the time).
mirror: HomeGoods // This is kind of a funny story. I purchased two mirrors from Target online during their 40% off sale, but when they showed up at my front door a few days later, the boxes were jingling; both mirrors were broken into lots of tiny pieces before I even unboxed them. They were promptly taken back to Target, and then went across the street to trusty HomeGoods and found this beautiful beaded mirror. It was fate!
porcelain dog figures: Hermann Furniture in Brenham, TX // before I had a crib, before I had a dresser, I bought these two porcelain dogs for her nursery. I had no idea what the room was going to look like, but I knew these two had to be a part of it!
changing pad: Cloud Island for Target // Target has really upped their nursery game with the new collection by Cloud Island, and when I saw this changing pad I immediately drove to our nearest Target to pick it up! I love the floral design, and the minky fabric is incredibly soft and easy to clean.
porcelain box: Herend // this was a huge splurge, but small Rothchild bird box will be something that lives on a bookcase/dresser forever and will one day serve as a ring dish for Eloise. But for now, it’s acting as the perfect cotton pad holder for those quick cleanups on the changing pad.
canvas print: Target // I found this canvas (sold out, similar here) at Target about two years ago, and it lived in our entryway in Oxford, and in our kitchen in our old apartment before we moved into our three-bedroom apartment in March. This was the piece that I used to choose the paint color for Eloise’s dresser, and it’s just the right amount of gold, silver tones, and pinks for her room.
I can’t believe tomorrow is the day! I cannot wait to meet our littlest love, the one we’ve prayed so hard for. I just can’t wait for us to bring her home later this week!
Pinch me, this is going to be one of the best weeks ever.
