Bonjour! Happy Friday friends! This week has flown by, and yet there was so much jam-packed into it! But the highlight of my week happened on Wednesday, as Peter and I were invited to the grand opening of Café d’Avignon in Kissimmee, Florida! And y’all, this new place is unreal– I haven’t had a French pastry outside of France that compares, and the croissants and Kouign-Amanns at Café d’Avignon have me questioning if I’m back in France again.
As Peter and I arrived at Café d’Avignon Wednesday morning, we could hear the excited crowds both inside and out for the grand opening of this New York-based café and restaurant. We could smell the fresh croissants, fresh pastries, and the coffee grinds as we walked up and instantly knew that this was going to be a great morning of eats and drinks! And those wonderful French aromas won’t be leaving the Margaritaville shopping area anytime soon, as Café d’Avignon bakes their breads and pastries fresh daily. Fresh!
Peter was elated to find out that Stumptown Coffee, his favorite ready-to-drink coldbrew (found at Publix) is the coffee supplier for Café d’Avignon, and Stumptown’s training team was there for the grand opening- croissants and Stumptown cold brew on tap?! Peter was in heaven!
Instead of celebrating a grand opening with popped champagne or a ribbon cutting, Café d’Avignon celebrated their opening in Orlando with a “first pour”. Five drinks later, and the café was officially open!
Peter ordered a chocolat chaud (hot chocolate), and he loved it! In Peter’s words, “This reminds me of my favorite café around the corner from your old apartment in Paris.” Talk about a compliment! Their cappuccino was divine, and we were given tastings of what Café d’Avignon has to offer. And boy, do they have goodies to offer!
The pastries were delicious and the baklava croissant was out of this world! The lines were persistent, but they didn’t stop me from standing in line to see the gorgeous setup that Café d’Avignon has to display their treats.
I walked away with a butter croissant for Eloise, a slice of bread pudding with blueberries pound cake, and a Kouign-Amann for myself. They were so, SO good! We know the croissants are good since Eloise ate it in one sitting and didn’t share at all… ahhh the toddler seal of approval!
It’s official: the eats, treats, and drinks at Café d’Avignon are absolutely delicious and if you’re in the Orlando area I promise you, this is worth your short drive! We have a new spot in town to take our family for le petit déjeuner, and I know exactly where my weekly baguettes will be coming from. Merci, Café d’Avignon for such a wonderful morning in Kissimmee!
